Welcome to the great Mediterranean festival in the city of seavers and sailors
Did you know that the now small town and port of Bakar had the status of a free royal town in the 18th century, the capital was (larger than Rijeka), that the Turks never conquered it, that it celebrated 170 years of seafaring school and that it was sent over 20,000 seafarers into the world? Bakar is proud of its maritime heritage, its vines on the terraced slopes, from whose grapes the sparkling wine "Bakarska vodica" is made, as well as its traditional pastry "Bakarski baškot" - the hard bread of seafarers. Dance with the captains to the sounds of Mediterranean music, sail into Bakar Bay, greet the city guards and taste the Bakar tuna, and much more:
The Croatian Adriatic is still rich in fish, and in our city of Bakar also in tuna. The fish in this area has a particularly high quality, which is why it is often referred to as "tuna with golden fins". One kilogram of this Adriatic beauty reaches a price of $ 200 per kg in the market.
The history of Bakar goes back a long time because of the favorable geographical position that enables the development of trade and seafaring, the strategic position because the old town of Bakar is situated on a hill, and the bay protected by the surrounding hills. During the period of the Habsburg monarchy, the city received the status of a free royal city.
Shipbuilding also developed as an independent city and Bakar is now a seafaring town with its own seafaring school. Bakar has always been known as a marine, trading and fishing center on the northern Adriatic. One of the more important industries was without further ado fishing for tuna. The most important and for centuries the most profitable group of standing tuna traps on the Adriatic was in Bakar Bay. The last tuna trap was the “Bakarac” tuna trap in Bakar Bay and it was actively used until the middle of the 20th century.
We invite you to immerse yourself in the fascinating mix of tradition, entertainment and good food with us. Let yourself be enchanted by the unique atmosphere of our fishing festival in the city of the captains.

DAY 3: Mediterranean festival in the city of se and sailors
Morning at leisure in the hotel.
In the afternoon our excursion starts with a wonderful boat trip in the bay of Bakar. The walls "Bakarski prezidi" are located on the eastern slopes of the Bakar Bay, from Bakar to Bakarac. The women carried earth in the back stretcher attached to their backs to the parcels where the "Belina" grapevine was planted. The famous “Bakarska vodica” sparkling wine was made from these grapes. The walls "Bakarski prezidi" were declared a protected zone (ethno-zone) in 1972 and entered in the list of cultural monuments. After more than half a century, the walls are being revitalized and the original grapevine is producing the sparkling wine "Stara Bakarska vodica" (Old Bakar Water).
With this sparkling wine and strengthened with Baškot - whose story is directly linked to the life of the seafarers, because this life is considered "bread with seven rinds" - you will be welcomed on the ship. The city guards and captains are already waiting for you in the harbor. We embark on a journey through history and make you in an interesting way, accompanied by the rulers of Bakar as well as the captains, with sights such as the crypt and the catacombs, familiar with the Church of the Holy Cross, the Bishop's Palace, the Roman and Turkish Houses and small squares and alleys of this beautiful city.
As the crowning glory of the day, our big party begins in the harbor: the captains open the dance with the guests, delicious fish (of course tuna, as well as calamari, anchovies, etc.) and meat specialties are waiting for you at various points, and you already have one Voucher worth € 20 to get these goodies.
We can also expect one of the best folklore groups in Croatia, which will present traditional dances from different regions of Croatia.
The sound of Mediterranean music, animation by our own animation team and original souvenirs and presentation of the old customs of many associations and craftsmen from the city of Bakar and the surrounding area are the best conditions for a lot of fun, a great atmosphere and certainly an unforgettable experience.
