PROGRAM SUGGESTION:

DAY 1: Arrival and welcome drink with our tour guide

DAY 2: The island and the sea: City of Krk, monastery island Košljun and a tasting of autochthonous products of your choice: award-winning beekeeper, cheese dairy or donkey farm
Is the island of Krk fatefully associated with the number seven? In the seventh century, the island was populated by Croatians. She successfully defended herself from the pirates seven times. The seventh in line, Prince Frankopan, was the last Prince of Krk, today the island of Krk has seven parishes. With your guide we will first visit the largest town on the island of Krk, the town of the same name, Krk. Through the old town center from the city gate we reach the cathedral and Frankopanen Kastel (fortress). Along the pedestrian zone, where you will walk along numerous small, nice shops, we end our city tour on the other side of the city or at the main city entrance and the 15th century town hall. After the city tour we have time for a coffee or shopping in souvenirs and Jewelry stores.

Our next destination for today is entirely up to you. When choosing a hotel on the island of Krk, you can choose between a beekeeper and a cheese dairy.

Award-winning beekeeper: the family receives us warmly and greets us with a honey schnapps. If he's not at school, even the smallest of the family will greet us. You will see and learn about honey production, taste the award-winning honey, various herbal teas from the island, as well as the traditional homemade cake of the island of Krk "Presnac", which is made with sheep cheese and is traditionally served in Croatia on various festive occasions, a treat! At the end of the day, the family has prepared a little present for us.

Dairy: our destination for today is in a small village in the southern part of the island of Krk. The landscape is dominated by olive groves and pastures, which are surrounded by dry stone walls. In this limestone landscape, people liberated land piece by piece to plant olive trees and vines. Even if the village is in the immediate vicinity of the sea, the people there were not turned to the sea, more precisely to fishing, but to sheep breeding and olive cultivation. The family we have the opportunity to visit today started making cheese back in the 1980s when they only had nine sheep. Today they have more than 150 milk sheep in their herd. When we arrive at the family-run farm, we first go to the cheese dairy. Here you have the opportunity to see the entire process of cheese making from the famous and popular cheese of the island of Krk and learn how cheese is made from milk. Then a welcome drink awaits us, namely a local schnapps from the island. We taste 5 different types of cheese: Magriž, Črni bodul, Zeleni bodul, smoked cheese, cheese from the island of Krk, as well as olive oil, dried figs, fig jam, marinated olives, bread, glass of white or red wine.

Donkey farm: interaction with animals can only produce positive vibrations. Once in history, donkeys were part of almost every village in Croatia. They were used as workhorses. Nowadays there are even fewer of them, at the moment there are only 2,600 animals left in Croatia. Started off as a breeze, the farm quickly turned out to be sustainable by selling their donkey milk. Exceptionally because of its excellent healing properties for diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, cough and allergies, the demand for donkey milk increased enormously. People claim that this milk helped their children with breathing difficulties relieve symptoms within a few days. The milk is very expensive and costs around 50 euros per liter. The high price of milk is understandable when one knows that female donkeys produce a maximum of 3 dcl milk per day. Learn everything about breeding and production, experience the warm hospitality and enjoy a coffee and homemade cake on today's excursion.

Another interesting fact: the island of Krk is shaped like a butterfly's wing. There are more than 1450 species of butterflies on the island of Krk. Our final destination is a small islet: the Franciscan island of Košljun. There is a museum with a collection of butterfly species from 1700. On the islet we can still see models of old ships from the Kvarner region, folk costumes from the island of Krk, a coin and ceramic collection, various ethnographic exhibits about the work of farmers and fishermen. We reach the islet by boat from the port of Punat (10 minutes crossing). The ship and entrance fees can be booked for an additional charge.

DAY 3: Free day or possibility of excursions
Visit our largest and most beautiful Plitvice Lakes National Park

Day 4: journey home

Hotels: Riviera Crikvenica and Novi Vinodolski, Riviera Opatija, island of Krk
