PROGRAM SUGGESTION:
DAY 1: Arrival. Welcome drink with our tour guide.
DAY 2: Island of Krk tour
Is the island of Krk fatefully associated with the number seven? In the seventh century, the island was populated by Croatians. She successfully defended herself from the pirates seven times. The seventh in line, Prince Frankopan, was the last Prince of Krk, today the island of Krk has seven parishes.
With your guide we will first visit the largest town on the island of Krk, the town of the same name, Krk. Through the old town center from the city gate we reach the cathedral and Frankopanen Kastel (fortress). Along the pedestrian zone, where you will walk along numerous small, nice shops, we end our city tour on the other side of the city or at the main city entrance and the 15th century town hall. After the city tour we have time for a coffee or shopping in souvenirs and Jewelry stores.
Another interesting fact: the island of Krk is shaped like a butterfly's wing
There are more than 1450 species of butterflies on the island of Krk. On the Franciscan island of Košljun there is a museum with a collection of butterfly species from 1700.
On the islet we can still see models of old ships from the Kvarner region, folk costumes from the island of Krk, a coin and ceramic collection, various ethnographic exhibits about the work of farmers and fishermen. We reach the islet by boat from the port of Punat (10 minutes crossing). The ship and entrance fees can be booked for an additional charge.
Our last destination is the town of Vrbnik - one of the oldest settlements on the island, also known for its wine - Vrbnička Žlahtina. After a walk, including through the interesting narrow streets, our day ends with a cozy ham, cheese and wine tasting at a family-run business (bookable for a surcharge).
DAY 3: Excursion to Rijeka and Opatija
After a leisurely breakfast, we start today for Rijeka, the capital of the region, and end this day with a visit to Opatija - one of the most famous cities in Croatia, mainly because of its longest tourist tradition. That is why Opatija proudly bears the title “Queen of Tourism”.
DAY 4: Free time in the morning, boat trip with dinner on board in the afternoon
At 4 p.m. we start a wonderful panoramic boat trip along the coast of Crikvenica or the island of Krk, depending on the choice of hotel. On board we are greeted by the ship's captain and cook, who is happy to conjure up a delicious dinner just for you. Maybe the cook or the ship's captain is single too?
Of course, specialties from the region are served. During the boat trip you can enjoy the Mediterranean melodies and the view of the coast, this time from the sea side, which is a particularly nice experience in the evening, because the bays and small towns look very different from this side.
If you take this trip in June, you can book our lavender harvest program or you can also advertise your trip as a beach holiday; or if you prefer to go in autumn, we recommend our wine enjoyment program in Vallis Vinearia
