We hike on soft leafy paths and stick dams through the forests of the Plitvice Lakes, which are connected with rushing waterfalls, and enjoy a boat trip in silent motorboats across the crystal clear Kozjak Lake.
Walking time: approx. 4-5 hours, difficulty level = medium, height difference = 300 m
Today we leave the Kvarner region and greet the Zadar Riviera.
Welcome to Dalmatia, the sunny region of Croatia, and the paradise for nature and hiking enthusiasts.
DAY 6: Undiscovered Zrmanja River Nature Park
Approx. 40 minutes drive from the hotel to the area around the Maslenica Bridge. We start our hike to the fantastic viewpoint of the canyon of the Zrmanja River. Shortly before it flows into Maslenica Bay, the Zrmanja has cut an impressive canyon into the karst mountains. This is where a pueblo was found in the Karl May film Winnetou II. Further scenes were filmed at this point in the canyon. That is why the Canyon has been an insider tip among Karl May fans for years. Duration of the hike approx. 1.5 - 2 hours. Then bus ride to the village of Ervenik, where we can do another easy hike of about 1 hour along the upper part of the Zrmanja river to the village and an old mill ... and this is where our journey through time can begin:
You will be welcomed with a home-made welcome schnapps and strengthened with a picnic: home-made bread, olives, olive oil, almonds, basa (a quark specialty of the region), almonds and figs. You will learn more about the country, people, costumes, tradition and folklore in the village where your current hosts live, around 20 people. Experience unique folklore, the men's group "Žegar živi", whose song is on the UNESCO list of the intangible cultural heritage of mankind. This is followed by a traditional “Čobanski kazan” lunch, plus music, dance and animation, all right on the Zrmanja river and by an old mill. And for goodbye, you will receive a bag with fine almonds to take home the taste of today.
Walking time: approx. 2-3 hours, difficulty level = easy, height difference = 100 m
Today's destination after the hike is the Makarska Riviera, where we will spend the next 3 nights.
DAY 7: Boat trip to Omiš, Trogir and Split
Omiš, a beautiful town by the sea and the Cetina gorge, where a boat trip along the Cetina river awaits us. We arrive at the popular excursion destination "Radmanove Mlinice" (Radman Mills), where there is the opportunity to have a coffee or lunch break. In the restaurant by the river you can try traditional dishes. We are happy to offer a ham and cheese tasting for a surcharge.
The Roman emperor Diocletian decided to build his summer residence in Split in 305. He had a residence built that was unique for the building industry at the time, with strong walls, numerous defense towers, temples, palaces and thermal baths. Today this palace represents the largest complex of ancient monuments in Croatia and is a popular sightseeing object. Not far from the economic and cultural center of Split lies the harmonious, stone city of Trogir, whose city center, like Split, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Trogir is one of the most beautiful small towns in Croatia.
DAY 8: Hiking day mountain range Biokovo
Choose from our diverse route suggestions on Biokovo
DAY 9: Free time or boat excursion to the island of Brač
Today we recommend a bus-free day, namely a boat trip to the island of Brač with lunch (choice between fish and meat). The exact route is selected depending on the weather conditions.
DAY 10: Makarska Riviera - Crikvenica Riviera
We hope that you will remember our coast and mountains for a long time. With these impressions we leave the south of Croatia and drive to our last overnight stay in the Kvarner Bay. On the way there is a stop in Zadar. Zadar, the metropolis of northern Dalmatia and one of the most beautiful Dalmatian cities with a rich cultural heritage.
When you arrive in Crikvenica, you have free time for a pleasant walk by the sea before you start your journey home the next day.
DAY 11: Journey home
